Lymphedema Management – Skilled Care at Home

At A Choice Home Health Care, we provide specialized lymphedema care to help patients manage swelling, improve mobility, and prevent complications-all in the comfort of their own homes. Our program is delivered by trained and licensed clinicians, under physician-directed care, following CMS (Medicare) and CHAP accreditation standards.

What is Lymphedema?

Lymphedema is swelling that occurs when fluid builds up in the arms, legs, or other parts of the body due to damage or blockage in the lymphatic system.

It can result from cancer treatments, surgery, chronic illness, or infection.

If untreated, it can cause discomfort, skin changes, infections, and decreased mobility.

Our Approach to Lymphedema Management

  • Comprehensive Assessment: Skilled nurses and therapists evaluate the extent of swelling, skin health, and functional impact.
  • Compression Wrapping & Garments: Special bandages or sleeves are applied to reduce swelling and maintain fluid balance.
  • Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD): Gentle, hands-on techniques that help move fluid out of swollen areas.
  • Exercise & Movement Training: Safe exercises to improve circulation, mobility, and overall function.
  • Skin & Infection Care: Education and monitoring to prevent complications like cellulitis.
  • Patient & Family Training: Teaching patients and caregivers how to continue safe lymphedema care between skilled visits.

Why This Care Matters

  • Reduces Swelling & Discomfort: Improves mobility and makes daily activities easier.
  • Prevents Hospitalizations: Early management reduces risk of serious infections and complications.
  • Improves Quality of Life: Helps patients stay active, independent, and comfortable at home.
  • Short-Term & Intermittent Care: Services are provided for recovery and stabilization, not as long-term extended care, in line with CMS and CHAP standards.

In Summary

Our Lymphedema Management Program provides skilled, evidence-based care to help patients reduce swelling, prevent complications, and maintain independence. Care is always patient-centered, short-term, and delivered in compliance with Medicare and CHAP guidelines.
